Occupational Safety and Health Seminar on “Building Fire Safety in Hong Kong”

Speaker: Ir Tam Tai-keung, BBA, BEng(Hons), MPA, RPE(Fire), MHKIE, MIFE Ir TAM joined the Hong Kong Fire Services in 1982. He worked through the ranks and was promoted to the present rank of Senior Divisional Officer in 2008. Ir. TAM has worked in many echelons of the Department including the administration, various fire protection offices and operational units. Ir TAM is currently the officer-in-charge of the New Projects Division in the Fire Safety Command which is mainly responsible for formulating fire safety requirements and recommendations in respect of all new buildings, alteration works to existing buildings and revitalisation of old industrial/ heritage buildings. He is also responsible for monitoring the implementation of departmental policies in respect of building fire safety. Having been working as a career fire professional for more than 29 years, Ir TAM has all-round knowledge and experience in fire suppression, fire protection, law enforcement and administration. He possesses a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Bachelor in Fire Engineering (Honours) and a Master in Public Administration. Ir TAM has been a member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (Hong Kong Branch) since 1987. He is a founding member of the Fire Discipline, Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and is now the Honorary Secretary of the Fire Division. During his tour of service in the Fire Services Department, he has taken charge of a number of major incidents like high-rise building fires and landslides. He was the leader of the HKSAR Rescue Team for the 512 Sichuan Earthquake Incident in Mainland China in May 2008. In recognition of his outstanding performance and contributions, he was awarded the Chief Executive’s Commendation (Public Service) in 2009.

CPD: A CPD Certificate of 1.5 hours will be issued to participants who have completed the entire duration of the seminar. The participants shall collect their own attendance certificate (with pre-printed name but without the Institution’s stamp) during registration. Upon completion of the seminar at 08:30 p.m. or later, the participants shall proceed to the reception counter for receiving a stamp on the certificate. Only certificates with the Institution’s stamp are considered as valid CPD certificates.
Content: In this Seminar, an overview on the fire safety in buildings in Hong Kong will be presented as the outline stated below: •Statutory fire safety requirements adopting prescriptive approach and fire engineering approach; •Testing, maintenance and inspection of fire service installations and equipment; •Fire safety management for buildings.
Remarks: To prevent the spreading of Influenza, any participant who has symptoms of flu, e.g. fever, cough and runny nose, is recommended not to attend the seminar, or he/she should put on a face mask throughout his/her stay at the seminar.
