Occupying a 250 ha site at Nim Wan, Tuen Mun, it is Hong Kong’s largest disposal facility currently accepting municipal solid waste. There are some unique features of the design and operation: − Marine reception area for offloading containerised waste delivered by ships from Hong Kong's municipal transfer station network; − A leachate treatment plant with ammonia stripping process and biological sequencing batch reactors; − The landfill gas is collected and utilised to generate energy via an on-site power station which provides sufficient power for WENT's needs; − An on-site laboratory accredited to HOKLAS standards. The objective of the visit is to allow the participants to have a more understanding to the OSH and Environmental Management System in the landfill.
Remarks: This visit is not covered by insurance policy taken out by IOSH Hong Kong. Participating members may consider additional insurance protection at their own cost where necessary.
