In this seminar, Dr. Wong will introduce the nature and symptoms of Seasonal Influenza & Bird Flu, and explain why Bird Flu has the potential to be the next Pandemic. He will explain some similar but confusing words such as: Antibiotics and Antivirals / Endemic, Epidemic and Pandemic. Dr. Wong will discuss the goals of a Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Plan and associated activities; as well as the implementation of antiviral stockpiling at corporate level, which is an important tool for the corporations’ survival during a Flu pandemic. Quoting from a HKU publication, he will explain how household-based interventions and the targeted use of antivirals may reduce the impact of a Flu Pandemic.
