Regulating our profession
IOSH is the world's biggest body for health
and safety professionals. Our aim is to secure and justify your
trust and confidence in the work of our members by ensuring high
levels of technical competence and professional conduct.
Code of Conduct
Our Code:
- identifies types of behaviour that are unacceptable
- states that members must be honest and objective in giving
their professional opinion
- includes requirements on Continuing Professional Development
(CPD) so that members maintain and improve their professional
competence.
The Code and supporting guidance show our commitment to
upholding and enhancing the good standing of the profession.

Chief Executive's Office.
Who does the code apply to?
It applies to all IOSH members and to all aspects of the
performance of their health and safety functions.
Members must also comply with the law generally and any
conviction that calls a member's integrity into question may lead
to disciplinary proceedings.
Making a complaint about an IOSH member
At the back of the Code of
Conduct (PDF 62KB), the Disciplinary procedure sets out
how a complaint (referred to as an 'allegation of misconduct') can
be made.
Normally, it must be made in writing and addressed to our Chief
Executive. If you can't make a written complaint, call our Ethical
Practice Manager on +44 (0)116 257 3365.
We need to be able to show, or explain, your complaint to the
member concerned so we can get their comments.
In the most serious cases, a Disciplinary Committee will look at
the evidence. The highest sanction is expulsion from membership but
it may be felt that guidance or a reprimand is fairer.
No sanction will be imposed unless there is evidence to prove
misconduct, such as not following the Code of
Conduct (PDF 62KB). We may reject a complaint if it's
frivolous or vexatious.
Fill out this form and we'll be in touch to talk about your
complaint:
