Our values
What is IOSH all about? What makes us tick?
Here are the values we work to, and some examples of what they mean
in practice…
We are passionate about protecting people –
no-one should be damaged by what they do for a living:
- We're investing in a major campaign and lobbying programme that
brings the issues that matter in front of government and business
decision-makers.
We value work and life – good business and
health and safety go hand in hand:
- We've delivered £250,000 in funding for academic research that
established links between successful organisations and expert
health and safety advice. And every year, our training network
helps over 130,000 people work more safely.
We are a powerful voice for change – we don't
just stand up for what we believe in, we come up with practical
solutions to make things better:
- Our Putting Young Workers First campaign calls on government to
change the way teenagers are taught at school and supervised at
work. To support the campaign, we developed a website and free training pack
which is now being used in more than 3,000 schools and
colleges.
We are committed to professionalism – we set
the standards for skills, knowledge and experience in health and
safety:
Our members matter – they're at the heart of
everything we do, and hundreds are directly involved in making IOSH
a success:
- Our recent Have Your Say member survey harnessed the views of
over 3,000 members to determine our strategy and business
planning.
We sustain a strong health and safety community
– great things happen when our members share their know-how and
experience:
