Fire risk management
Overview
This is a joint CPD event by the Association for
Project Safety (APS)London region and IOSH London Metropolitan
branch Construction section.
Timber is an everyday material within the Construction industry
used not only as a general material but more and more within
prefabricated construction. It not only speeds construction but
also reduces waste and improves sustainability of a project.
Following several high profile fires involving
timber framed projects the HSE Guidance on fire safety in
construction sites HSG168 was revised and published in October
2010.
This document is now being implemented by the HSE and together with
the Joint Code of Practice 200, issued by the Fire Protection
Association, now puts pressure on clients, designers and
contractors to consider off site fire risks.
The UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) has responded by
issuing practical guidance on off-site fire risk assessments.
Martin and Paul will talk us through these documents highlighting
examples of what they mean to us and how they may affect
design.
The evening will round off with a short presentation by Paul Newman
on sustainability, especially in regard to the use of timber.
Refreshments will be served from 18:00. Please arrive early for
a prompt start at 18:30.
