Is the Recession and New Mobile Technologies increasing
Repetitive Strain Injuries?
Overview
Dr Tony Kochhar will speak on the theory, based on Health and
Safety Executive figures, that Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSIs)
are increasing in an era of redundancies and ever increasingly
blurred boundaries between our work and home lives. As those
workers still with a job spend ever more time on their mobile
devices trying to do the work of colleagues who were made redundant
Tony will reflect upon some very modern RSIs such as 'mobile thumb'
and 'Tablet wrist' and ask some provocative questions, such as are
organisations even doing enough to recognize this issue and if they
are what can be done about it?
What's in it for me
This is an ideal opportunity to look at an issue that you may be
forgiven for thinking it has 'gone away' or ever never really
existed in the first place. Tony will use a number of cases that he
has recently treated to powerfully illustrate how RSIs can impact
on workplace performance and what organisations could and should be
doing about it. In the wake of high profile compensation cases such
at eh £300,000 compensation payment for RSI in March 2010 to two
former employees of a well respected international airline and the
ever evolving nature of mobile devices, this is a chance to think
through these issues with one of the country's leading authorities
on RSIs.
Who should attend?
Any health and safety professional who has not thought about the
consequences of workplace provided mobile devices or the impact on
those colleagues not made redundant and who would like to fine out
more about how to manage these risks.
