The term ‘human error’ almost
invariably arises when considering high consequence incidents and
accidents. This interactive presentation draws on latest guidance
from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) along with the
presenter's experience in working to improve human reliability and
reduce human error.
The negative perspective that is
often associated with ‘human error’ is challenged and we are asked
to think of them as every-day occurrences that we need to accept
happen, and manage accordingly.
The presentation asks us to start
thinking about why we behave in the way we do, and therefore why we
make the mistakes that we do. Only when we start thinking along
these lines can we start to improve reliability and reduce the
consequences associated with human errors.
What's in it for me?
People working in high risk
processes and industries will receive an insight into what is
expected of you when asked to consider ‘human factors’ within your
processes, practices, procedures, safety cases etc.
In addition, anyone interested in
human factors, human error and human performance particularly in
industrial settings, will gain some knowledge on how to start the
process of improving performance and reducing the consequence of
errors.
Who should attend?
Typical attendees might include:
- Facility managers/ Operations managers particularly within high
risk process industries
- Safety assessors interested in what human factors mean
- Local safety representatives interested in what this means to
them and their colleagues
- Health and safety practitioners, advisors, managers
- Anybody really, we are all human after all!
