REACH - Chemical legislation

Douglas started by stating that the REACH
is a European Union regulation concerning the Registration,
Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. It came
into force on 1 June 2007 and replaced a number of European
Directives and Regulations with a single system.
Douglas gave an interesting and comprehensive review of the
requirements, which will be phased in over a number of years and
are dependant on quantity and danger of each chemical
substance.
We are very grateful to Douglas for allowing a copy of his
presentation to be available to IOSH members. District Members who
are logged in can view the presentation in our past meeting library.
The presentation raised a number of challenging question which
Douglas gave considered and very helpful responses. Richard Pickles District Chair closed the
meeting with by presenting an IOSH commemorative glass and the
usual thank you round of applause.
Before the main event there was an
introduction on Positive Posture by Jane Morgan MCSP. Jane gave a
brief introduction on the benefits of Positive Posture.
If you spend most of the day sitting down in a static position
then you will get aches and pains in your neck, back and shoulders.
Jane outlined the way pains in these areas develop and how to
relieve them by good posture and regular exercises. She quickly
demonstrated to the group how to obtain a good seating posture and
followed this with some simple exercises.
This short introduction was concluded with a round of questions
and answers which brought out a number of interesting questions and
responses.
So if you are interested in this growing issue of how to keep
employees pain free then give the Positive Posture approach a
try.

Don’t forget that for those who arrive early there is a CPD
session from our Champion Rob Amson at 18:00 a buffet meal at 19:00
