First IOSH Bahrain networking event

Under the Patronage of his excellency Bassim Bin Al-Hammar, Minister of Housing, Bahrain Health and Safety Society (BHSS) commenced their annual networking party on 9 August 2011 on the occasion of the advent of the holy month of Ramaden. The event was a joint event with IOSH Bahrain where IOSH members in Bahrain gathered and networked during the event.

More than 121 health and safety practitioners, specialists and guests attended this event at the Gulf Hotel networking and enjoying a traditional and cultural meal that is only served in the holy month of Ramadan called "Ghabga".

In the evening, Dr. Mustafa Al-Sayyed, President of BHSS, thanked the minister for his patronage and Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) for sponsoring the event for the second time in a row. In his speech, Dr. Al-Sayyed emphasised the importance of health, safety and environment which resulted in attaining many worldwide awards.

Moreover, Al-Sayyed welcomed the new collaborative project being signed between BHSS, Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) and the participating training centres devoted to training 20,000 citizens (housewives) from different parts of Bahrain on first aid, home safety and fire fighting techniques. Al-Sayyed stated that this training project is in-line with BAPCO's social responsibility objective and the 12x12 project. which is achieving 12 million working hours without lost time injury by 2012.

Following Dr. Al-Sayyed's speech, HE Al-Hammar assured in his speech that all housing projects with the ministry are adhering to robust health and safety standards followed by the contractors handling the project which resulted in a quick completion of the projects, and thus prompt and timely delivery of housing services to the citizens.

At the end, trophies and certificates of appreciation were handed to the companies and individuals who played a big role in serving the society and promoting health and safety culture around the Kingdom of Bahrain during last year. After that, a raffle draw was made for the attendees on several prizes.

From the 120 plus attendees to this networking event, 8 were IOSH members from Bahrain and a further 2 were IOSH members from Saudi ARAMCO, based in Saudi Arabia.
