Midland Branch & District Executive
Committee - Role Descriptions
All Executive Committee Members are asked to attend
Branch/District Meetings and Executive Committee meetings when
available, and to send apologies if they are unable to attend.
Chair
- To represent the Midland Branch and to be the main point of
contact in all communications with IOSH HQ and other external
organisations.
- To chair Branch and Executive Committee meetings;
- To be the point of contact for media in the event they wish for
comment on local H&S issues.
- To oversee that a program of interesting and relevant topics
are produced annually for branch meeting;
- To set the agenda for each Executive Committee meeting:

- To oversee and ensure that all committee members are fully
effective in their role.
Vice Chair
- To deputise for the Chairman in his absence at branch and
executive committee meetings;
- To end a letter of introduction to new members.
- To support and assist the Chair in the role and in particular
in developing the branch to reach more of its members; and
- To have responsibility for overseeing the operational and
organisational aspects of branch affairs.
Treasurer
- Day to day responsibility for all the financial affairs of the
branch;
- To liaise with IOSH HQ over financial affairs of the
branch;
- To prepare branch annual accounts and statements;
- To report at each Executive Committee meeting on the financial
status of the branch; and
- To liaise with the auditors and to ensure the accounts are
audited in time for each AGM
Branch Secretary
- To be the main point of contact for all communications relevant
to branch members;
- To maintain an up to date list of Executive Committee
members;
- To take and distribute minutes for branch and executive
committee meetings
- Responsible for booking venues for the Midland Branch meetings
and making arrangements for refreshments.
- To arrange for the attendance book to be present at each branch
meeting
Web Champion
- To liaise with IOSH HQ over the content of the branch website
and to ensure its content is accurate and up to date;
- To liaise with branch officers for relevant and up to date
information to include on both the main and branch website;
- To report at Executive Committee meetings on the content and
appearance of the branch website.
Program
- To ensure the agreed program is developed; and to liaise with
speakers.
- To produce an outline programme for the forthcoming 6
months;
- To arrange with the web champion that the program appears on
the website and is maintained.
- To made arrangements for the storage of branch equipment
comprising the PA, audio equipment, projector and penguin
stand.
Branch Education and Development
Advisor (BEDA)
- To maintain regular contact with IOSH HQ;
- To keep well informed on current and forthcoming IOSH education
and development activities;
- To report at Executive Committee meetings on those
activities.
- To keep the Executive committee and the branch updated on
membership structure and CPD and IPD requirements.
- To champion ways of helping branch members in developing their
careers as requested.
Group Liaison
- To gather information on the various Group’s activities and
consolidate it for passing on to Branch members.
- Establish points of contact with Group committee’s so that
inquiries from branch Members can be passed on.
- Keep Branch and District committees informed of any Group
events planned to take place within their areas.
Committee Members
- To assist in the setting up of equipment prior to branch
meetings.
- To introduce themselves to members before the start of each
branch meeting.
