Judgment day for health and safety event
About the event
This event, organised by the IOSH Northern Ireland Branch, will
begin with senior inspectors from the Northern Ireland Health &
Safety Executive describing the logistics of a HSE(NI) incident
investigation from the initial accident investigation through to
the criminal court case and will then go on to discuss a number of
recent landmark legal decisions.
The morning session will culminate in a mock criminal courtroom
scenario which will provide the delegates with an insight into what
can happen when you get it wrong in the world of health and
safety. This session will work through an incident and will
incorporate police interviews and a court room scene involving a
health and safety manager and a director. The verdict
will be delivered by a retired High Court judge and a question
and answer session will follow.
The afternoon session will focus on civil court proceedings,
beginning with the Northern Ireland managing director of global
giant Willis Group, delivering a presentation entitled ‘Insurance
and Compensation – A Help or a Hindrance’. This will be followed by
a mock civil courtroom scenario. The aim of the hearing is to
enable delegates to view and participate in the preparation and
running of a court case focusing on a relevant health and safety
issue. This is an opportunity to experience the emotional,
practical and organisational issues arising from a civil court
case.
Each question and answer session will be chaired by the President
of IOSH, Subash Ludhra, who is also a qualified magistrate.
Considering the high quality of the presenters involved in this
conference, it is expected that places will fill quickly, so please
book early.
