Is health the new safety event
5 November 2010
Is health the new safety was the theme for
the latest group networking event held at the University of
Birmingham on 2 November.
We started with a buffet lunch which
enabled members to network and perhaps learn that they are not the
only people in the world pushing peas up Mount Everest with their
noses. Apologies but that is what it feels like sometimes is it
just me?
A very enthusiastic and passionate Fiona
King gave an overview of how occupational health has come out from
behind closed doors and taken the message to the coal face within
E.ON. A very enlightening talk of how to be proactive and the
benefits surrounding that approach.
After refreshments an equally enlightening
presentation was given by Jaki Leaker and Dr Paula Devlin,
Connaught Compliance Services. Very much the same message with the
added difficulties of changing mindsets in organisations when you
are an external provider engaged to deliver a service.
The committee would like to thank the
speakers, the members that attended and Claire and Paula from
IOSH.
We are planning to hold another networking
meeting in April / May 2011 in London. We have a few ideas but
please do not hesitate to contact any member of the committee if
you have any suggestions.
