Letter from the Chair
16 December 2011
Dear consultancy group member
I am delighted to forward the response
to the survey which was discussed in full at a committee meeting
held on the 30 November 2011.
A summary of the main points raised:
• Lack of networking events close to where individuals
lived / worked.
• Can’t afford the time off to attend events, as they would
lose money. Requests for evening events.
• Never hear anything from the committee.
• What is the purpose of the group?
It wasn’t all negativity and thank you to those that recognise
that the committee is trying to move forward.
Total number of respondents to this survey = 436
Clearly we are never going to please everyone. The purpose of
the group is to support consultants with their requirements and
soft skills play a significant part in surviving as a consultant in
this day and age.
To that end we have requested that IOSH approach a consultants
contractors group to look into the possibility of getting a
discounted rate for IOSH members. This organisation is for
freelancers / consultants of any discipline. More details to
follow.
It is impossible to cater for all areas of the UK when
organising events. However we will be organising webinars in the
future, please refer to the proposed diary of events for 2012.
These will last approx. 45 mins and will either be early in the
morning or in the evening.
As Chair I never want to see the comment that people never hear
from the committee or Chair despite a number of mails etc. I will
personally respond to any mails that I receive, as will other
members of the committee.
Moving forward communication will be via Connect and I can only ask
you to look at the consultancy slot and or go straight to the
consultancy web site for updates etc.
We will be updating the biographies of the committee members and we
will be a introducing spotlight of a committee member on a monthly
basis.
Like most things in life, the more you put into something the
more you will get out of it. So, tell us what you want, write
articles for the web site, stand up be counted as a consultant,
attend the events that are organised for you.
My best regards
John Bartlett
