Alan G M Haynes

Alan joined British Rail straight from school,as a
Civil Engineering student in 1970. After becoming a Chartered Civil
Engineer he progresses through Project Development and Investment
Management into Safety, becoming Strategic Safety Manager on the
original Channel Tunnel Rail Link scheme in 1991.
When that scheme 'folded' in 1993, he
joined Railtrack as their Safety Validation Project Manager,
becoming the Manager, Construction Safety for Major Projects when
Railtrack became 'live' in 1994. He was seconded to S&SD where
he was a Process Manager for one of the Safety Validation Panel
that were integral to the privatisation process and Railway Safety
Cases. Alan was Process Manager on the Railway Group Inquiries into
the Ladbroke Grove and Hatfield incidents.
Alan became a permanent member of
Railtrack's S&SD in 1996, where, as Safety Review Manager he
dealt with Railway Safety Case audit processes, before joining the
new Channel Tunnel Rail Link project in 1998 as Rail Safety
Manager.
In 2002 he joined Stagecoach Rail as
their Project Safety Manager implementing the introduction of the
Desiro trains into passenger service In 2005 Alan 'retired' from
Stagecoach Rail, and has since worked as a private Consultant for
various clients in the railway industry.
Alan was heavily involved in the
setting up of the Railway Group within IOSH, and was proud to be
its' inaugural Chairman.
