IOSH Isle of Man Branch Seminar - "CDM 2008 – Am I
bovvered"

The IOSH Isle of Man Branch held its annual
seminar on Tuesday 21 October 2008. Entitled "CDM 2008 – Am I
bovvered", the seminar was held at the Keyll Darree Education and
Training Centre at Strang on the Isle of Man. The seminar focused
on the development of the Construction (Design and Management)
Regulations, furthering delegates' understanding of the regulations
and gauging the benefits to be gained from the proposed revised CDM
regulations.
Following a brief introduction from Stan Yellop, Chair of the
IOSH Isle of Man Branch, the Seminar was opened by the Honourable A
J Brown MHK, Chief Minister of the Isle of Man Government and Ray
Hurst, IOSH President, who delivered the opening keynote address.
The minister in his speech highlighted the synergies between IOSH's
vision and the Isle of Man's strategy of "freedom to flourish".
The Seminar then heard from professionals with unique
experiences of the CDM regulations, including: Steven Bentham,
Senior Inspector for Construction, Isle of Man Government Health
and Safety at Work Inspectorate; John Smith, Chief Executive of the
Isle of Man Water Authority; Phil Baker, President of the
Association for Project Safety; Louise Brearey, Head of the
Construction Sector, Health and Safety Executive; John Lacey,
Managing Director of Lincsafe Health and Safety Consultancy; Louise
Furniss, former General Secretary of the Isle of Man Employers'
Federation and Nattasha Freeman, IOSH President Elect and Director
of Health and Safety at Phoenix Beard.
The event was attended by over 120 delegates from the Isle of
Man, an excellent turn out which reflected not only the popularity
of the IOSH Isle of Man Branch events, but also the wide reaching
impact of the CDM regulations.
