IOSH and INSHPO (the International Network
of Safety and Health Practitioner Organisations) will be hosting
symposiums at the World Congress in Seoul, Korea.
1 July will see the IOSH symposium on 'An interactive global
perspective on developing health and safety management systems'
which will feature a range of presentations and workshop
sessions.
The sessions will include sections covering:
- management systems, with IOSH council member, Rakesh
Maharaj
- corporate governance and the role of environment, health and
safety professionals, with Philip McAleenan, from ExpertEase
International
- taking into account real activity for changing safety
management systems to health management systems, with Joel Maline,
from Antenne ANACT Basse
There will also be three workshop sessions, moderated by Rakesh,
with a briefing session by the chair of the International Group,
David Evans, on the exercise covering examination of cultural
influences on safety management systems.
On the 2 July, INSHPO is also hosting a symposium on the
international transportability of safety and health practitioner
credentials.
Martin Ralph, the president elect of INSHPO, will chair the
event, which will see three health and safety perspectives put
forward and then focus groups to discuss competence standards
across the world.
The North American perspective will be put across by Eddie
Greer, from the American Society of Safety Engineers, and Eldeen
Pozniak, from the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering.
Martin Ralph, in his capacity as managing director of the
Industrial Foundation for Accident Prevention (IFAP), Neville
Rockhouse, from the New Zealand Institute of Safety Management
(NZISM) and Andrew Tan, from the Singapore Institution of Safety
Officers (SISO) will explore the Australasian perspective.
Former IOSH president Paul Faupel will then look at the European
perspective before the symposium breaks up into three focus groups
to discuss how a competence standard gap analysis could be
undertaken and to discuss the development of an INSHPO standard of
competence for the profession.
