Putting young workers first
In Britain in the last decade 61 under 19s
were killed at work and nearly 14,500 suffered major injuries. More
than 48,000 other teenagers were hurt by their work. We believe
that the government, employers, teachers and youth workers can and
should better prepare young people for the risks they'll face at
work before they get there.
Making our voice heard
- we proposed an action plan to get health and safety into
teacher training and the school curriculum
- we developed and launched Wiseup2work
- we developed and launched the free Workplace Hazard Awareness
Course for year 10 students
- we regularly meet with MPs and Peers to get their support for
the campaign
- we're working with the Child Safety Education Coalition (CSEC)
to ensure better risk education in schools
Quote me
"The large number of deaths and injuries of
teenagers in the workplace is an appalling tragedy, involving
wasted young lives and misery. IOSH's measures are a practical
solution which I strongly support."
