Hello and welcome to
Connect
With a UK general election fast approaching, what questions
would you like answered by the three main political parties?
Connect will be challenging each of the three main parties on
their thoughts about workplace health and safety, and we’d like to
offer you the chance to
post your own questions.
For example, what do Labour and the Conservatives think about
the current level of resources for the HSE? Do the Liberal
Democrats think there’s too much health and safety legislation? How
would the different parties help small businesses in terms of
health and safety?
We’ll be talking to the three main political parties next month,
so if you have a question that you want answering, visit our
discussion thread and post your contribution.
In this issue of Connect, we look at what practical steps you
can take to manage the risks of workplace violence – highlighted by
two court cases where substantial payouts were awarded to employees
due to failures by their employers to protect them.
We also look at a recent High Court ruling that illustrates how
claimants face an uphill struggle to succeed in bringing claims
where the cause of the accident is part of the inherent risk in the
activity itself.
As well as features, Connect has all the latest news, including
details of how IOSH will be streaming two sessions live on the web
from the IOSH 10 conference.
