Welcome to Connect!
To coincide with the launch of IOSH’s new
website, Connect has had a makeover with some exciting new
additions which you should find useful.
As well as your regular MyNews, MyCareer and
MyNetwork sections, Connect has now launched
MyBooks, listing the latest publications from IOSH.
Written to support you either in practice or as a study tool,
MyBooks keeps you up-to-date with what’s ‘hot off the
press’ where you can read extracts and buy online. Check out the
latest books IOSH has to offer here, or scroll down the right-hand
side of Connect.
Another new feature added to Connect is flickr, an
online photo sharing site where you’ll be able to view photos from
past, present and future articles. Click here to look at some
photos from the recent Parliamentary Conker Championships.
In this issue of Connect we look at the threat of
noise exposure in the workplace. There’s
a common misconception that it’s only industries such as
construction and manufacturing that are susceptible to excessive
noise levels, when in fact call centre staff, bar staff and
teachers are also at risk. We take a look at what health and safety
professionals should be doing to best protect their staff from
excessive noise at work.
Also in this issue of Connect, we look at the health
and safety implications of the Disability
Discrimination Act and what it may mean for employers if they
don't take reasonable steps to accommodate disabled employees or
service users.
As well as features, we have up-to-the-minute news from around
the industry supplied by the Press Association, together with jobs
in your area and details of the latest Professional Development
courses.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue and can I thank everyone for
their continued support of Connect. Please feel free to
get in touch if you have something to say about Connect,
or want to be included in one of our features.
Thanks.
