How to fight your corner if health and safety
claims put you in the dock
4 November 2009
If an employee, unhappy with an aspect of
your company’s health and safety, took the matter to an employment
tribunal, would you know how to respond?
The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
Merseyside Branch has organised an ‘Employment tribunal’ workshop
on 12 November 2009 at 24 Hatton Garden, Liverpool, L3 2AN. This
one-day practical workshop will be run by Weightmans LLP, a top-60
UK national law firm, and includes representatives from the firm’s
Regulatory Services Unit and Employment teams based in
Liverpool.
Chair of the IOSH Merseyside Branch, Peter Williams said:
“This event will help safety practitioners,
HR professionals and line managers who may need to attend an
employment tribunal as an interested party or to give evidence.
Delegates will follow a detailed case study that examines a claim
for unfair dismissal involving health and safety issues, this will
help them understand the jurisdiction and rules behind tribunals
and how cases are prepared, statements are given and the burden of
proof is applied.
"There will also be a mock hearing with
evidence from various parties, and delegates will be able to play
the role of a witness to experience what it’s like to be examined
and cross-examined by advocates. Finally, all delegates will be
invited to reach a decision, following which the implications will
be discussed.”
The workshop costs £55 plus VAT for IOSH members, £75 plus VAT
for non-members and lunch will be provided. For more information
