Helping our members to attend IOSH 10
26 January 2010
In this tough economic climate we
understand that some of our members may be struggling due to
unemployment, reduced hours and challenging personal circumstances.
As a membership organization, we want to do everything we can to
help members through these tough times. With IOSH 10, our annual conference, approaching in a
couple of months, we wanted to give as many members as possible the
opportunity to attend. Our conference is an important opportunity
for members to develop professionally, make new contacts, and hear
from more than 45 expert speakers on a range of diverse
subjects.
To enable people who might not otherwise be able to attend, we
set up a bursary fund to offer 10 free conference passes to members
paying concessionary fees. And in recognition of their achievement,
we also offered 10 free passes to members who had recently gained
Chartered or Graduate status.
We had a very positive response and nearly 500 members contacted
us to be included in the lottery draw for the winners. 20 names
will be picked at random from all those that responded and the
winners will be contacted on Friday 5 February.
If you weren’t one of our winners, or if you are struggling to
find the budget to attend the conference this year due to
unemployment, long-term sick leave, maternity leave, or any other
reason, then please contact your local branch or group to see what
assistance they may be able to offer you.
And for this year’s conference, we’ve looked at how we can make
sure all our members can stay in touch with what’s going on in
Glasgow – with a free exhibition (including IOSH and spotlight
theatre sessions), summary papers of all the presentations
available two weeks after the event, two live web casts (with
interactive texting), YouTube interviews with speakers and
participants, full reports in SHP online and Twitter updates.
IOSH also has a benevolent fund. This fund can offer practical
help during long periods of illness, aids for temporary or
permanent disability or help during unemployment. If you think you
or someone you know may benefit from the benevolent fund then you
can apply by contacting Sue
Carabott on +44 (0)116 257 3180. (Applicants must have been a
member of IOSH for at least three years.) Read more about the benevolent fund. (You will
need to log into MyIOSH first.)
