New book to be launched at IOSH 10
23 March 2010
Disasters: learning the lessons for a
safer world is IOSH’s new and exciting book. It will be
launched at the IOSH stand during the IOSH 10 conference and
exhibition in Glasgow on 24 March at 2pm.
Illustrated in colour throughout, Disasters look at
over 90 accidents, incidents and safety failures. It gives the
background to each incident and explores what happened and why,
before finally examining the wider consequences and the lessons
that can be learnt.
Some incidents, such as Aberfan, Chernobyl and Hillsborough, are
so famous that they are known simply by a single place name. Other
incidents and disasters may no longer be so instantly recognisable
but still have important lessons for us today, such as the early
fires, explosions and mining disasters that paved the way for
better safety management. Disasters: learning the lessons for a
safer world also looks at the politics of disaster and risk
reduction.
The author, David Eves, is a former Deputy Director-General of
the Health and Safety Executive and has over 45 years’ experience
in the health and safety profession. He is the co-author of
Questioning performance: the director’s essential guide to
health and safety and the environment, also published by IOSH.
David will be at the IOSH stand to answer questions about his
latest book and will be happy to sign copies. We’ll also be
offering 10 per cent discount off all IOSH books at the
conference.
Disasters costs £30.00. To order your copy, phone +44
