Healthy Lives, Healthy People: Our
strategy for public health in England
The government’s approach to tackling ‘lifestyle-driven’ ill
health and health inequalities is set out in a new White Paper
published by the Department for Health. The 'Healthy Lives, Healthy
People' strategy proposes an end to central government control and
places the onus on local government for funding and responsibility
for improving public health. The strategy also announces changes in
the way public health protection is delivered, and presents the
idea of a dedicated service, to be called 'Public Health England'.
Its aim is to protect the population from serious health
threats.

New consultation: Measuring national
well-being
About this consultation
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is developing new measures
of national well-being that aim to cover the quality of life of
people in the UK. The measures will include areas such as the
environment, sustainability issues and the economic performance of
the country in order to measure what matters most in people’s lives
and what is important for measuring national well-being.
