Healthy Lives, Healthy People: Our strategy for public health in England

The government’s approach to tackling ‘lifestyle-driven’ ill health and health inequalities is set out in a new White Paper published by the Department for Health. The 'Healthy Lives, Healthy People' strategy proposes an end to central government control and places the onus on local government for funding and responsibility for improving public health. The strategy also announces changes in the way public health protection is delivered, and presents the idea of a dedicated service, to be called 'Public Health England'. Its aim is to protect the population from serious health threats.
