OH Toolkit introduces non work-related health issues
1 August 2011
The Toolkit, which was developed back in
2007 as a free resource for all, now offers information on diabetes
and pregnancy.
Dr Luise Vassie, executive director of policy
at IOSH, said: “The Occupational Health Toolkit is being
continuously developed by the research and information services
team to ensure that it provides the most up-to-date information
available.
“When the kit was initially launched Dame
Carol Black, the Government’s director for health and work,
commended the tool for its practicality. On Dame Carol’s
suggestion, we have incorporated non work-related health issues
into the kit, making it an easy, accessible one-stop shop for
occupational health advice and guidance.”
Pregnancy and diabetes are the first in a
series of topics that will be available in the OH Toolkit. Under
each topic users can find guidance, factsheets, case studies and
even training materials to help tackle non-work-related
occupational health issues.
Luise added: “Diabetes and pregnancy have
been chosen as the first subject areas for the new section of the
Toolkit as they are common in all workplaces. Often there is so
much information out there businesses and employees just don’t know
where to look.
“Over the next few months, we plan to add
more information to the toolkit about non work-related health
issues, as well as a section on work-related cancers.”
