IOSH on OSHCR's first few months
15 September 2011
IOSH has been invited to speak today at a
Westminster Briefing event ‘Good health and safety, good for
everyone?’ at the Congress Centre in London.
Chaired by Roger King from the Office of Public Management,
speakers will include Health and Safety Executive (HSE) chair
Judith Hackitt , DWP deputy director James Wolfe and Mary
Broughton, of the Federation of Small Business.
The wide-ranging agenda covers legislative reform, whether
health and safety regulation is vulnerable to the ‘red tape
challenge’ and whether inspections will be cut.
And six months on from the launch of the national Occupational
Safety and Health Consultants’ Register (OSHCR), IOSH has been
asked to discuss how it’s going so far and what the future
developments might be.
Richard Jones, IOSH head of policy and public
affairs, said “We feel the government’s strong support for OSHCR’s
launch last March helped show the tremendous value that’s placed on
good health and safety advice and professionalism in modern
Britain.”
Commenting on progress, Richard
will explain to delegates: “Though it’s still early days, the
signs have all been positive – good numbers of consultants signed
up and thousands of visits to the website each month.
"And feedback to HSE, though limited, has all
been positive. There’ll be a better picture after 12 months of
operation and once an evaluation has been conducted.”
