IOSH makes key research appointment
The Institution of Occupational Safety and
Health (IOSH) has appointed a research programme director to lead a
5-year integrated research programme on occupational health and
safety interventions.
Professor Robert Dingwall formerly Director of
the Institute of Science and Society at the University of
Nottingham, took up the post in June. Robert will be working with
IOSH in engaging with researchers and the occupational safety and
health community at large to develop research-based solutions to
practical problems.
Commenting on his appointment, Professor
Dingwall said:”This is a particularly exciting time to be able to
work with IOSH to develop efficient, effective and relevant health
and safety interventions. I look forward to working with the IOSH
community to respond to the challenges that face it in the present
economic and political environment.”
An accomplished academic, with over 23
published books to his credit and a further 96 journal
publications, Professor Dingwall has carried out numerous research
projects on professions, work and organisation in healthcare, legal
services and science studies.
Professor Dingwall, who holds a PhD in medical
sociology, will be working closely with IOSH’s Policy and Technical
Directorate.
Head of Research and Technical Services, Dr
Luise Vassie said: “We believe that a network of inter-related
projects which work together to tackle a particular research theme
will be more effective in delivering high impact findings. Having
Robert on board to shape and lead the programme is a real
asset.”
