Training Roadshow hits Cambridgeshire
A former Naval Officer will use the “white
tunnel experience” of his close scrape with death to inspire health
and safety professionals and business leaders next month.
Phil Olley, 47, collapsed with anaphylactic shock in 1999 and
stopped breathing. It was then, recalls the veteran of tours to the
Falklands and Gulf, that he saw the oft-reported tunnel and bright
light.
But as paramedics battled to save his life, it was not past events
that flashed before Phil, he said. It was those ambitions that
remained unfulfilled.
The inspirational speaker will talk about his near-death experience
and how it changed his life as part of the Institution of
Occupational Safety and Health’s (IOSH) Training Roadshow, which
will take place at the Huntingdon Marriott Hotel, in Cambridgeshire
on 22 September.
Phil, from Coventry, has been delivering talks and writing books on
his blueprint for success for more than a decade, but this is the
first time he has spoken to experts in the field of health and
safety.
He said: “I want them to go away inspired,
and focused, not just to do things a little differently, but to
feel they have permission to be creative with their training, and
to unleash their true potential.”
The IOSH Training Roadshow will be split into three
sessions.
‘Blueprint for a Breakthrough’ is described by Phil as his
“principles of success”. ‘Peak Performance’ is about producing your
best at specific moments in time. And ‘Getting Your Act Together’
is on how self-improvement can “breathe new zest” into your
training.
Recounting his life-changing experience 12
years ago, he said: “It’s not your life that flashes before your
eyes, it’s your values. And it’s not the things that you did – it’s
the things you wish you had done. It’s the regrets.
“At that point, I had been pretty successful
in business but had not done those things in life I wanted to do. I
hope that, without having had to have gone through that,
participants in the Training Roadshow can learn from what I went
through.”
As well as Phil, IOSH commercial development manager, Tracey
Wright will bring delegates up to date with the latest marketing
thinking which can mean the difference between business success and
failure. During the marketing session, Tracey will explore
strategies for in-house and commercial trainers who are facing
different challenges – from new marketing techniques to dealing
with conflict of interest from managers.
