IOSH highly commends health and safety of local company
A fertiliser company has been awarded for its outstanding health
and safety initiatives.
Yorkshire-based Yara Pocklington was recently commended for its
good housekeeping rules, incident reporting and engagement with its
workforce by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health
(IOSH) at the Best Factory Awards 2010, in London.
Yara’s Pocklington site is the global centre for the development
of a range of foliar and micronutrient fertilizers and its products
are distributed to more than 60 countries worldwide.
Martyn James CMIOSH, health and safety
manager for Yara Pocklington said: “Health and safety performance
is a key priority within all Yara sites. At Pocklington,
commitment at all levels has been shown. Directors, senior and line
managers all drive health and safety performance and every manager
has safety-related key performance indicators.
“Over the last couple of years, Yara has
provided its employees with numerous training courses such as
IOSH’s Managing and Working Safely. We have a variety of different
health and safety initiatives in operation designed to protect the
health and wellbeing of our staff. Health and safety has played a
key part in the success and efficiency of Yara as a company.”
Yara Pocklington was awarded a highly commended health and
safety award at the Best Factory Awards 2010. The awards highlight
manufacturing at its best and are rigorously judged by Cranfield
University’s School of Management.
Hazel Harvey, Professional Affairs Director
at IOSH, presented Yara Pocklington with their award and said:
“IOSH are proud to have sponsored the health and safety award and
to see such worthy winners. Yara truly deserve their highly
commended award. It is clear that they take occupational health and
safety extremely seriously and have a positive attitude towards
real risk.”
